Video of Girl Throwing Puppies in a River Causes Social Media Uproar
A video of a young girl in a red sweatshirt throwing several puppies into a river has caused a huge social media backlash on sites like 4chan , reddit and Facebook . The backlash is similar to the one caused by the Cat Bin Lady , a woman who was caught on video throwing a cat into a dustbin, and whose identity was quickly revealed by 4chan members. Similarly, some members of 4chan and reddit started a campaign to find out the identity of the girl, while a Facebook group related to the incident has gathered more than 3,000 members in a little more than a day. Although the exact identities of the girl and the person behind the camera are unknown, the girl speaks Croatian in the video, and other inconclusive evidence suggests that she is resident of a city of Bugojno in Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to threads on 4chan and reddit [Warning: Strong language is used in the thread], the footage was filmed by the girl’s brother, who uploaded the video to YouTube, but soon removed it.

Google Wave Is Not Dead (Yet)
Google’s Wave was a project that garnered a huge amount of interest, only to see the buzz completely die within a year of the launch, even after Wave stopped being invite-only and opened to the public. This prompted Google to shut the service down in August , making some parts of Wave open source. Furthermore, Google promised to create tools that will help users extract their content from Wave.

Net Neutrality: 7 Worst Case Scenarios
Many consumer advocacy groups, web companies and startups are ranting about the perils of losing net neutrality. Net neutrality, they say, is what made the Internet what it is today by giving small companies the opportunity to become big companies, and it rightly puts the user in full control of what he views on the Internet. Huge telecommunication companies like Verizon, and cable providers like Time Warner, however, could potentially profit a good deal from charging websites like YouTube for priority treatment and faster loading times. They argue that prioritization is necessary for a functional internet and that regulated net neutrality will stunt innovation.

Google Street View Car Searched by French Regulators
Google Street View is in trouble with authorities again. This time, one of its vehicles was halted and searched yesterday near Paris. Google’s Street View service became highly controversial when Germany learned that Google was (inadvertently, it claims) collecting publicly broadcasted SSID information and MAC addresses from Wi-Fi networks in the country. According to Yann Padova, secretary general of the French National Commission for Computing and Civil Liberties (CNIL), the search was conducted to “verify that they stopped collecting Wi-Fi data.” Furthermore, French regulators aren’t too happy about the fact that Google resumed taking photos around France before it was determined whether the company complied with the orders to limit Street View data collection. CNIL said it had inspected two other Google cars, but wouldn’t say what the inspectors found.

Facebook to Start Rolling Out New Page Width
Caution, Facebook Page administrators: Facebook is set to begin rolling out narrower Page tabs today. The width of the tabs will be reduced from 720 pixels to 520. The change was announced back in October 2009 but was delayed, presumably to let administrators prepare for the reduced tab width. Still, many popular Pages still use 760 pixel wide elements, which will look broken once Facebook implements the change. A good example is this tab on the official Victoria’s Secret Facebook Page.
