Cisco CRS-3: Download Library of Congress in Just Over One Second

Cisco has announced a new routing system that it says is going to speed up the Internet in a big way. According to the company, Cisco CRS-3 — currently being tested by AT&T — is three times faster than its predecessor, which was introduced in 2004. The company offers a few intriguing sound bites about the CRS-3 and what it enables: - the entire printed collection of the Library of Congress to be downloaded in just over one second - every man, woman and child in China to make a video call, simultaneously - every motion picture ever created to be streamed in less than four minutes. Of course, that’s not for end users, but ultimately allows the telecom companies (Cisco’s customers) to route traffic around the Internet faster. Speaking to the reasoning behind the new speed push, Cisco CEO John Chambers says in the video below that he expects Internet traffic to grow at “200-500 percent per year” as bandwidth-intensive activities like downloading and streaming video continue to explode.

Samsung Super AMOLED explained in pretty moving pictures (video)

Using "super" to describe your new display technology just begs for criticism. Especially when the word is affixed to a handheld display technology as notoriously difficult (if near impossible ) to see in direct sunlight as OLED. Fortunately, Samsung's Super AMOLED appears to have licked the outdoor readability issue while bettering the features that made us fall in love with AMOLEDs in the first place. First off, it's thinner since the touch sensors are now integrated into the display; colors are more vivid due to the removal of the obfuscating touch sensor layer that sits on top of TFT LCD and traditional AMOLED touchscreen displays; and even the viewing angle has been improved

HTC Supersonic meets Mr. Blurrycam, leaves us wanting more (video)

Being drip-fed information on the HTC Supersonic is unlikely to be as pleasant an experience as actually having one, but it's all we can do to fill the time until this beast of a phone finally makes its official debut (probably on Sprint ). Today's appearance shows what looks to be a majorly insecure Mr. Blurrycam sporting gloves and gingerly handling a handset purporting to be HTC's latest and greatest. We're mostly treated to a sight of the back, which is white as our first (and most trusted) tipster had seen, and gives us a grainy first look at the camera and speaker grill arrangement

The iPad introduction video, as captioned by Google

Hey remember that feel-good iPad introduction video with the Ben Folds cover of "In Between Days" Apple posted on launch day? Yeah, well you're going to remember the hell out of it once you watch it with Google's auto-transcription enabled on YouTube. Trust us, you owe yourself these few moments of absurdity.

Tweeting Bike Keeps Festival Goers Updated [VIDEO]

An ongoing festival in London is offering a unique way of keeping up with happenings: following a tweeting bike on Twitter. The East Festival — boasting a “uniquely rich creative mix of East London” — will be documented in part by the “Twike”, a two-wheeled creation from Pete Fowler , who is no doubt tired of being described as the Super Furry Animal’s in-house artist. The Twike for the East Festival has been fitted with a cell phone programmed to tweet out messages when it comes within range of key areas of the festival. Fowler, and the Chance Collective, a London-based digital and social media creative agency behind the project, hopes it will encourage people to follow the bike online – as well as offline around the festival. If you like the look of this tasty Twitter-themed mode of transport then you can check out the Flickr photo set , as well as see the overall progress of the Twike via a Google Maps mash-up to be released at the end of the festival, or follow the overall festival news via @eastfestival

HP Slate makes an appearance to show off Flash, stays for a rock concert

It shouldn't be any surprise that the HP Slate supports Flash, since it runs Windows 7, but we've seen so little of the device since Steve Ballmer first waved it around at CES that we're still totally intrigued by this video from Adobe showing it in action. Yep, there it is, playing video, running casual Flash games, and using AIR applications. We also get a quick shot of the on-screen keyboard, which looks like a mildly tweaked version of the standard Windows 7 keyboard. We can't say until we use it, but it certainly doesn't look like it'll be fun to type on. Interestingly, Flash is said to be hardware-accelerated on the Slate, which suggests something other than a bone-stock Atom setup in there -- we'd guess it's an Atom plus a Broadcom Crystal HD Accelerator , but there's a chance it's something else entirely.

A lava lamp and a Nexus One tested under 3 Gs of force (video)

Neil Fraser, a true pioneer of science, wasn't satisfied with just wondering whether a lava lamp will work on Jupiter. He opted instead to build a freaking centrifuge in the middle of his living room, strap an innocent lava lamp and a Nexus One to one end with counterbalancing weights on the other, and spin that monster up to find out for himself. His instrument was able to generate 3 Gs of lateral force (despite the Nexus One's G-Force reporting 2.0 Gs due to a bug, now reported to Google), which is comfortably above the 2.5 G gravitational pull that one might experience on the solar system's biggest planet. So, did the goo keep its mojo under pressure?
