8 Social Media Questions With NFL Stars Matthew Stafford and Darrelle Revis

When the clock runs out on Super Bowl XLIV tomorrow, the Gatorade that gets dumped on the winning coach’s head will be one of three new sports drinks that the beverage company has debuted in Miami over the past week, the culmination of a marketing blitz that has made heavy use of social media and some of football’s biggest stars. On Friday, I had a chance to talk with two of the athletes involved – Matthew Stafford, last year’s #1 pick and quarterback of the Detroit Lions, and Darrelle Revis, the Pro Bowl cornerback of the New York Jets. The two had just completed 30-minute sessions on Ustream (and via Facebook ), where they answered questions live from fans while doing performance testing on specially-equipped exercise bikes.

50 Cent Symbolizes the Impending Live Video Explosion

Some of the recent numbers being put up by live video events on the Web are giving TV a run for its money. Take for example the New Moon Premiere , which attracted 3 million viewers in total, a U2 concert on YouTube that reached 10 million, and the red carpet event for This Is It , which saw 1.8 million tune in. Today, we have yet another big number to share, this time from last night’s Ustream premiere of 50 Cent’s movie “Before I Self Destruct.” In total, more than 255,000 users watched at least part of the 90 minute screening, which included the hip hop mogul answering questions live from fans.

Facebook Goes to the Red Carpet With Live Video for American Music Awards

Live webcasts of red carpet events are an emerging trend with social networks and live video. In the last few weeks, we’ve seen the red carpet events for Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” and “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” bring in big viewers. The “Twilight” event, which was a collaboration between MySpace and Ustream, broke Ustream records by delivering 3 million viewers. Unsurprisingly, the biggest social networking site on the web — Facebook — has also picked up on the trend. The American Music Awards will be streaming its first ever digital pre-show on Sunday, November 22 on the popular Celebs on Facebook Page

New Moon Webcast Breaks Records: 3 Million Viewers

Yesterday we reported on the collaboration between MySpace and Ustream to exclusively live stream the Twilight Sage: New Moon red carpet for the movie’s premiere last night in Westwood. We knew the live broadcast would be huge given that, within the first minutes, the viewer count shot up to 100,000 viewers, but even our expectations were exceeded. MySpace just released their data and as it turns out, the stream garnered over 2 million uniques, and almost 3 million total viewers . According to MySpace press materials, “It was a huge success breaking the record to become the highest amount of viewers to tune in to a Ustream red carpet live webcast

Shakira’s Stats Don’t Lie: Facebook/Ustream Music Video Debut Is A Hit

Last week we reported on Shakira’s decision to use Ustream and Facebook to live stream the debut of her latest music video, Give It Up To Me — a move that’s a fairly huge departure from the standard MTV route we probably would have seen a few years ago. Ustream has just given us the stats of yesterday’s launch, and it’s clear that it drew quite a crowd: over the course of the ten minute live stream, Shakira’s video had 95,000 unique viewers during the initial broadcast. And over the course of the last 24 hours, the video has seen a total of over 500,000 views. Ustream says that Shakira video wasn’t its most popular of all time — the streams for Michael Jackson’s memorial service and President Obama’s Inauguration saw much more traffic, with 4.6MM and 3.8MM total streams respectivly. But those streams were both hours long, while Shakira’s stream lasted a mere ten minutes

Twilight New Moon Premiere Is Huge and Growing [LIVE VIDEO]

You can have your opinion about the Twilight series, but one thing’s for sure: they know how to leverage social media. Twilight New Moon mania has enveloped Twitter , taken over MySpace , and most recently we learned that MySpace and Ustream would stream the red carpet premiere live on November 16th, 6:00 PT. Well, that time is now, and the numbers are already mindblowiinI may not be a member of the Twilight crazy, but the phenomenon is enormous on social media channels. It only took a few minutes for the Ustream live stream to jump from 65,000 to 70,000 to over 100,000 viewers, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down.
