Facebook Starts Suggesting Pages to New Users
Facebook has released a new feature that automatically suggests Pages for new users to “Like.” What’s more interesting is that Facebook has placed this new functionality as the second step — second only to finding friends — in the Facebook signup process. Step 2 of 4 is called “Choose your interests,” and here new Facebook members will be greeted with a selection of Pages that are suggested for them based on the Pages that people in the same demographic commonly “Like.” Pages are also selected based on how much they update and engage with Fans. The new recommended Pages feature can obviously be compared to Twitter’s once-controversial “Suggested Users” list, except Facebook’s suggestions are dynamic in nature. Still, Pages gifted with the premium placement will no doubt enjoy a bevy of new Fans.

Zynga Goes To The Mattresses With Mafia Wars Users
This story fascinates me on so many levels. Here are the basic facts: Zynga has been moving its games off of the Tagged social network and encouraging users to migrate to Facebook. Earlier this month Zynga gave out a special code to Mafia Wars users on Tagged that would give them $120 worth of currency on Facebook when they completed the migration.

Like Unvarnished, Duedil Is A Reputation System For People
We've seen how Unvarnished is setting out to create a kind of "Yelp for people" where you get reviewed as a person whether you like it or not. Now a new startup has appreared hoping to do something similar, but this time within a network that will give it significant traction from the word go: LinkedIn . Here's how it works: A user of Duedil will be able to submit comments or "reviews," whilst other users will be able to "reply" to them by deeming them "fair" or "unfair." In other words it's a kind of 'karma reputation'.

MySpace Positions Itself as Facebook Alternative with New Privacy Settings
Facebook is under fire of late as members threaten a mass exodus and NYU students attempt to build an alternative Facebook . Today MySpace is taking its own jab at Facebook by announcing that the social networking site will soon make the default setting for updates “friends only.” This default privacy change will affect all users who “previously had any granular page setting to ‘friends only,’” but can easily be changed. The change is part of MySpace’s new public commitment to privacy. The once-dominant social network’s stated goal is to simplify settings and let users more clearly post updates publicly, to friends only, or publicly to anyone 18 or over.
