EA Drops Prices on iPhone Games Including Madden, FIFA and SimCity to $1

Game-maker Electronic Arts ( EA ) is selling a big chunk of its iPhone game library for just $0.99 per game for the next 48 hours — a steep discount for many of its titles which include Madden NFL 2010 , FIFA 10 and SimCity . Not all of EA’s games are on sale, though. Sure, SimCity is $0.99, but The Sims 3 [iTunes link] is still a steep $6.99, and while FIFA 2010 is just $0.99, the more timely FIFA World Cup [iTunes link] hangs at $2.99 — though that’s not a bad price, either.

Even Tiger Woods is Hopping on the Virtual Currency Bandwagon

The promise of virtual currency has proved an effective way to get users to engage with their friends in social games like FarmVille and Mafia Wars. Now, Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online – the web-based version of the popular console game from Electronic Arts – is giving this concept a shot, offering users $10,000 of in-game currency for each of their Facebook friends that signs up. That currency can then be used for activities like improving your swing, purchasing clubs, and outfitting your golfer with the goofiest virtual pants that virtual dollars can buy. While not necessarily a ground-breaking promotion, it does highlight some of the possibilities of EA – who also acquired social game maker Playfish for $400 million — moving their popular sports titles to the Web and the overall excitement right now around social gaming. In a somewhat similar promotion, Bing was recently able to find 400,000 new fans for their Facebook Page in 24 hours by incentivizing users of FarmVille with virtual cash.

Alice in Wonderland Live Stream Attracts 400,000 Viewers

Alice in Wonderland isn’t as popular as a Tiger Woods confession, it seems. MySpace hosted a live stream for the movie last night, with streaming video partner Ustream counting almost 400,000 views over the evening. Those are strong numbers … if it weren’t for the easy comparable of Tiger Wood’s live stream , which earlier that day attracted 638,000 views over its 15 minute run. The “ultimate fan event” is the latest in a series of star-studded broadcasts hosted by MySpace — previous live streams included Avatar and New Moon events, plus a live stream from the GRAMMYs red carpet. It’s also the latest to be organized via RSVPs submitted to Social Plan , an events app within MySpace
