Optoma PK201 pico projector now shipping, PK301 up for pre-order
We're still holding out for the faraway 1080p pico projector, but for those who need a display in their pocket before 2023, Optoma 's latest aren't half bad options. The PK201 and PK301 , both of which made their debut at CES earlier in the year, now have product pages at Amazon, with the former being listed as in stock ($299.99) and shipping this very moment. The other guy is up for pre-order at $399.99, though you'll get an 854 x 480 resolution output with either. 'Course, you may want to hold out for the 301 and its 50 lumens of brightness if the 201's 20 lumens seem a little weak, but hey, the ball's in your court now, vaquero

Microvision lets others sample its PicoP Laser Display Engine
We're guessing that if you haven't bought a pico projector by now it isn't because they're just too big , but Microvision is doing its part to help make 'em smaller nonetheless. The company has begun initial shipments of its PicoP Laser Display Engine, found inside the Show WX , for other companies who want to make their own projectors -- or rifles . The circuitry that's half the size of the tech in competing pico projectors while still managing WVGA (848 x 480) resolution and a 5000:1 contrast ratio.

Dell debuts wireless, 3D-capable S300w short-throw projector
Sure, we may one day all simply carry pico projector-equipped phones and ditch any other sort of display, but until then, there's still a place for projectors like Dell's new S300w model. Designed mostly with presentations in mind, the projector can produce a 90-inch, 720p image from a distance of three feet (or 60-inches from two feet), and it packs both built-in wireless capabilities and a so-called "Plug-and-Show via USB" feature for some added flexibility. You'll also get Crestron RoomView Express software bundled with the projector for remote operation and monitoring, and some decent enough all around specs, including 2200 ANSI lumens of brightness, a 2,400:1 contrast ratio and, of course, 3D capability (though not out of the box) -- all for $999.

Samsung to Debut I8520 "Halo" Android 2.1 AMOLED Projector Phone [Samsung]
Buried at the bottom of Samsung's MWC press kit was mention of an I8520 "Halo" projector phone. Sporting Android 2.1, a 3.7-inch Super AMOLED screen, and 720p video (to name a few), the phone will be officially revealed tomorrow. The phone will also support an eight megapixel camera, with flash; DivX/Xvid playback; Bluetooth 2.1; 802.11b/g/n WiFi; GPS; and 16GB storage. There's a "Specialized Projector UI" feature in there too, hinting at the projector functionality to come.

Acer’s 3D, home automation-ready S5200 projector now available
Acer first slipped out word about this one last week, but it looks like its new S5200 projector is now actually available, and it packs a few more unique features than your average projector. That includes a 120Hz refresh rate and full support for 3D when paired with a compatible graphics card (and some 3D glasses, of course), along with built-in support for Creston's home automation system, which will let you operate it from afar and engage in other shenanigans. On the downside, the projector only manages a standard XGA resolution (among other decidedly average specs), so it shouldn't come as too much of surprise that Acer is pitching it more at classroom use than as one of the first real 3D options for your home theater. Then again, the

No-name Mini USB pico projector now the cheapest you can buy
It was fun while it lasted, but Sanwa's once $119 pico projector is now selling for no less than $179, which means that it's no longer able to hold the prestigious title of "world's cheapest pico projector." As far as we can tell, that honor now belongs to this impressively boxy model known only as the "Mini USB 2.0 LED Projector w/Tripod," which is now available at various online retailers for $159.99. Specs are as basic as can be, of course -- but, hey, it comes with a tripod. Lancerlink pico proj features ARM processor, Windows CE
If you're a fan of both Windows and projectin' stuff, this is your lucky day! Hot on the heels of news that LG's WinMo-powered pico projector-packin' eXpo is heading for AT&T, Lancerlink has announced a little something called the MPJ-104WCE. This 5.5-inch long projector ships with Windows CE 5.0, 4GB memory, 64MB flash storage, an ARM9 (400MHz) CPU, a USB port, and two 0.5 watt speakers. This guy will project your various docs (including PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, WMV, and and MPEG-4) at 640 x 480 resolution, but only in Japan for the time being. We'll keep our eyes peeled for domestic price and street date. Lancerlink pico proj features ARM processor, Windows CE originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 30 Nov 2009 14:27:00 EST
