The 2010 Emmy Awards are this Sunday, and NBC is using the ceremony to embrace social media in a big way. NBC is using services such as Twitter , yfrog and Ustream to bring a more real-time experience to the event. These services will also let fans and viewers interact with Emmy presenters using social media. A Closer Look at the Privacy Features of Facebook Places [PICS]

In addition to talk of what the arrival of Facebook Places means for startups like Foursquare , the aftermath of last night’s launch has given rise to a number of questions about privacy. Notably, the ACLU published a list of grievances almost immediately after Facebook’s announcement, many of them to do with the feature’s option to automatically check friends into locations. Some of the other concerns raised aren’t necessarily new to realm of location apps, but are amplified by general concerns about such services , the enormous size of the social network’s userbase and the company’s history of privacy-related issues . Since Places still isn’t enabled for many people (Facebook is working on it ), including those outside of the U.S., Mashable reporter Christina Warren and I decided to test out the features — especially the controversial tagging option — on the web and on our mobile devices this morning. HBO Streaming Service Coming to iPad

HBO Co-president Eric Kessler says his company’s HBO Go streaming TV and movie service will be available on the iPad and mobile devices for the network’s paying customers within six months. The news was buried in a Bloomberg article about the coming rivalry between HBO and Netflix . The piece says that HBO Go will be available on “all major cable systems, on Apple Inc.’s iPad, on mobile devices and elsewhere” at no extra cost for existing network subscribers. In addition to hosting acclaimed TV shows like True Blood , HBO has the online rights to the feature films of Universal, Fox and Warner Bros, including Jurassic Park , Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen , Night at the Museum: Battle in the Smithsonian and The Informant! .

Hilarious “Twitter Movie Trailer” Parody Hits YouTube

We’ve seen a lovely little flock of The Social Network -inspired mock-trailers lately. The trailer for the upcoming Facebook movie has caused quite a stir on the tubes, so we should have expected this string of parodies. So far, we’ve seen some funny entries based on YouTube and MySpace ; the “Twitter movie trailer,” however, is definitely laugh-out-loud material. Based not at all on the true story of Twitter cofounders Jack Dorsey, Ev Williams and Biz Stone, the trailer is mostly a tongue-in-cheek send-up of the original The Social Network trailer
