MediaMonkey 3.2 Syncs with More Devices, Adds Auto Folder Watching [Updates]

Windows: We dig MediaMonkey for its album art and tag-fixing powers, but the free jukebox software can do so much more—like sync to nearly any smartphone or MP3 player, and automatically manage your music library. The marquee feature in MediaMonkey 3.2 is expanded device support, including WebOS devices like the Palm Pre and Pixi, the latest iPods and iPhones, Android phones (as general USB storage devices), and many more. MediaMonkey's also added automatic folder watching to the free version, something previously available only in its paid Gold edition. And MediaMonkey also added in support for Windows 7's right-click taskbar feature, jump lists, showing recently played tracks, playlists, and other controls

The Boxee Set-Top Box: It’s Coming [Boxee]

Boxee's fantastic connected media center software has always been just that: fantastic connected media center software . Today, the company says its going to announce hardware —a Boxee Box , even. Boxee's post on the box has nothing in the way of details yet, so I'm just going to have to take a WILD guess at what this thing will look like: It'll be a box, with an Ion chipset, a medium-sized HDD, HDMI-out and a Boxee sticker and a $200 price tag. Why? Because nothing else would really make any sense

DivX Tech Preview Adds MKV Video Support to Windows 7 [Windows 7]

Windows 7 only: The latest DivX tech preview adds support for MKV video files to Windows 7, so you can use them in Media Center, Media Player, and even show thumbnails in Windows Explorer. Windows 7 already includes native support for AVI/DivX files, but MKV files are quickly becoming the standard format for media files in HD—and while you can play them using everybody's favorite , VLC Player , you won't be able to use them in Media Center or stream to an extender device like the Xbox360, and the thumbnails will just show a generic icon. Installing the DivX Tech Preview enables MKV support, so the video files will work in any application that relies on Microsoft's native media support, and even adds hardware acceleration for video decoding (if your video card supports it). Readers should note that you can continue to use VLC to actually play the files, but install this to get thumbnails working. Hit the link for the free download (free registration required), and make sure to check out the CyberNet News post for the full explanation, including some extra links for additional filters to make sure all of your media works
