Firefox’s Next JavaScript Engine Will Borrow from WebKit [Firefox]

Mozilla's home-brewed JavaScript engine for its Firefox browsers, TraceMonkey, has impressed us before , but in the raw benchmark game, it's starting to fall behind its competitors . To up its game, Firefox's developers are building a new engine, dubbed JägerMonkey . Ars Technica writes that the new compiler uses some open-source WebKit code to get the job done, including parts of Apple's just-in-time compiler. Manually Refresh POP Mail Fetching in Gmail [Gmail Labs]

Gmail uses a common timing algorithm to fetch messages from POP accounts, one you can somewhat game , but sometimes you want to get at a message you know has arrived. A new Labs feature adds a manual refresh button for POP grabbing. Head to your Labs settings and enable the "Refresh POP accounts" lab, then hit "Save changes" at the bottom or top of the page. From then on, you'll see a "Refresh" link to the right of your inbox buttons. Hit it and Gmail will poll any email accounts you've set it up to fetch from

Every year music lovers from across the country head to Austin, Texas for SXSW, and for the past six of those years, SXSW has offered hundreds of DRM-free tracks from artists playing at SXSW—and it's all available via BitTorrent. Just head to the Home of the Unofficial SXSW torrents to grab the first torrent, featured 646 tracks weighing in at 3.35 GB. Best Buy Goes 3D At 200 Stores On March 10; 900 Stores By March 21 [3D]

If you're sick—literally or figuratively—of 3D now , just wait until the end of the month. HD Guru has Best Buy's schedule for rolling out 3D capable HDTVs and Blu-ray players from Samsung and Panasonic, and they're coming soon. The Guru claims that sales and demonstrations of 3D gear will commence at 200 Best Buy locations on March 10—as in, like, Wednesday.
