Droid 2 to Launch in Three Weeks [REPORT]

We’re seeing reports online indicating the mysterious Droid 2 might launch as soon as August 12. Just last week, we saw that the original Droid had been listed as an end-of-life device by Verizon, meaning that no more Droids will be shipping from Motorola and support for the device will slowly taper off. While this news was slightly sad for the Droid faithful, it also meant one very exciting fact: The Droid’s next-gen replacement must be waiting in the wings.

Apple sells 1.7 million iPhone 4s through Saturday, June 26

There you have it. 600,000 pre-orders turned into 1.7 million iPhone 4 sales through this Saturday -- the Sunday transactions haven't even been tallied up yet. One more reason for Steve and company to look smug. That eclipses the 3GS' already phenomenal 1 million units sold over a weekend, and stands pretty much head and shoulders above any other launch the mobile world has yet seen. iPhone 4 launch day at AT&T stores: 7AM opening, awesome t-shirts confirmed

What you're looking at here, folks, is the extreme wardrobe you can expect to see when you waltz into a corporate-owned AT&T retail location on the iPhone 4's launch day later this month -- and even better, casual pants and footwear may be worn if approved! On a more serious note, though, this launch packet we've received confirms that stores will be opening on 7AM on the 24th and that new AT&T customers will be restricted to a maximum of one device (the same restriction applies to the new 8GB 3GS) and current customers will only be able to buy one phone per active line of service. Oh, and if you're going to a store that sells U-verse service, expect a pitch. Don't say we didn't warn you.

How Facebook Won the Web

With the launch of a universal “Like” button , Facebook seems set to own both our social graph and a map of our interests. In one fell swoop, the company may have wounded the popularity of Twitter’s retweets and built a personalization engine that allows Facebook to rival Google in both search and advertising. Did Facebook just win the web with a single button? That’s the topic on my CNN column this week. Best Buy Selling iPads on Launch Day [BestBuy]

We-hell-hell, what have we here? It seems as though those placeholder SKUs that popped up in Best Buy's database a few weeks ago were for iPads after all. Both TUAW and Engadget have some shots of Best Buy's confidential "Apple iPad Launch Playbook"—their term, not ours—and the documents suggest that some 675 Best Buy locations will have the iPad available in limited quantities on April 3.
