Google Calendar Gets a Smart Meeting Rescheduler

Not everyone can afford a personal assistant to reschedule their meetings, but we can all use Smart Rescheduler. The new Google Calendar Lab gadget automatically works to suggest the best times to reschedule a calendar event. The experimental addition was added to Google Calendar today and can be enabled via the Labs section. Upon installation, the feature will appear alongside users’ calendars and allow them to select individual events to reschedule. Here’s how it works: Clicking “Find a new time” prompts the gadget to check the calendars of scheduled attendees, allowing it to recommend the best dates and times to reschedule based on Google’s search ranking algorithms.

Keepin’ it real fake, part CCLIX: X-Slim X340 KIRFed, MacBook Air empathizes

The secret to a great KIRF is that it represents not just a knock-off but an homage to a beloved product (at least, that's what we tell ourselves when we sit in our workshop, trying to build the first ever shanzhai Grippity ). Recently spotted in the stalls of Shenzhen, the above device is reminiscent of the MacBook Air, yes, but more tellingly, the MSI X-Slim X340 . This 13-inch (1366 x 768) bad boy features a 1.2GHz Intel ULV processor, 1GB of RAM, up to 250GB of HDD, WiFi and Bluetooth, an SD card slot, three (count 'em!) USB ports, and HDMI out. You can expect to spend about $350 if you ever manage to track 'er down -- or you can just say the hell with it and go back to reading Garfield Minus Garfield .

Will the iPad Launch Be Delayed? [RUMOR]

An analyst has been speculating that manufacturing bottlenecks may reduce the number of iPads available at launch — or delay it entirely, according to AllThingsD . More than a month ago, Steve Jobs unveiled the iPad to the world, with an ambiguous “late March” shipping date for the Wi-Fi version of the device. In the ensuing weeks, no further information about a specific date or pre-order options ( despite rumors ) have been made available. AllThingsD cites Canaccord Adams analyst Peter Misek as the source of the most recent rumor regarding the launch date.

Build a Clean, Wall-Mounted Charging Station [DIY]

Ugly cords are the obvious villain in your gadget-charging clutter, but even if you put together a nice charging station, you've still got to sacrifice some counterspace to your charging station's footprint. This clean, wall-mounted charging station tackles both problems. Pam from home blog Bibbidi Bobbidi Beautiful details how she put together an attractive, cordless, clutter-free charging station with a simple and some picture hanging strips. She mounted the shelf on top of her outlet (depending on how concerned you are with fire hazards, you may want to reconsider that aspect) with the help of the hanging strips, effectively hiding both the outlet and the chargers from view. The cords also remain hidden by the shelf, and all that's left is small dongles sticking out the top for you to get your charge on

Desktop Eye Puts Webcam Surveillance Right in Your Windows Sidebar [Downloads]

Windows: Desktop Eye is a small sidebar gadget that puts security camera monitoring in an unobstrusive widget and saves you from running a bulky separate application that may not always be in focus where you can see it. It's worth noting immediately that Desktop Eye is not an absolutely real-time monitoring solution, you aren't seeing a direct frame-by-frame feed from your remote webcam. Desktop Eye allows you to connect into a a remote directory and view images from a security camera as they are dumped into that directory—both the Desktop Eye author and we recommend previously reviewed YawCam as a great free tool for this. You can read the author's detailed instructions of setting up Desktop Eye with YawCam here . Once installed Desktop Eye sits in your sidebar and checks the remote location for new pictures at the interval you specify.

JXD V3 handheld is confused, confusing and altogether interesting

We won't front -- there's little chance we'd actually use JXD 's V3 handheld, but it's not for lack of interest. This here PMP / game player hybrid isn't apt to leave the shores of Asia, but for those in that neck of the woods, this unit offers up emulators for a slew of game consoles, a 4.3-inch display, a 5 megapixel camera and plenty of file format support to handle your favorite music and video. Reportedly, the device even features an FM radio tuner, and in case you're curious as to why there are two D-pads on this thing, it's because you'll need 'em to get through certain Game Boy / NES titles. Or so they say. We can't say we're stoked about the $112 price tag, but in a way, we're kind of in love with the whole flip-top design

Car Gifts Too Dangerous To Actually Use While Driving [Gift Guide]

Theoretically, we shouldn't drive while playing with gadgets. But at stop lights and while we're waiting for roadtrip passengers to finish buying cornchips at the gas station quickmart, well, OK. BTW, if you hate the gallery format as much as the Grinch hated Christmas, click here . Scrolling LED Message Sign With Remote: There's so much to say to your fellow drivers on the road that the finger, two signal directions, high beams and horns don't cover. Can you really put a price on the ability to articulate "YOU DRIVE LIKE SHIT", "PLEASE SIGNAL", "DO NOT TAILGATE" and "PLEASE LEAVE THE FAST LANE IF YOU ARE DRIVING 50MPH".

Black Friday deals roundup: Walmart, Target and NewEgg

We suspect this will be the final round of Black Friday ad leaks -- you know, considering that Black Friday is but a few days away -- but it seems as if the gadget world has saved the best (or at least the biggest) for last. As usual, we're not spotting any major steals that'd be worth lining up a dozen hours in advance for, but the $78 Blu-ray player and $10 BD films from Wally World may be worth paying your neighbor to snag for you. Check 'em all out below... if you dare. Black Friday deals roundup: Walmart, Target and NewEgg originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 22 Nov 2009 18:13:00 EST.
