Lenovo: Apple is Missing a Huge Opportunity in China
Is Apple doing enough to reach Chinese customers? Not even close – if you ask Lenovo. According to Financial Times , Lenovo’s founder Liu Chuanzhi said Lenovo is “lucky that Steve Jobs has such a bad temper and doesn’t care about China. If Apple were to spend the same effort on the Chinese consumer as we do, we would be in trouble.” It’s a bit odd for a company chairman to speak about competition in that way, and a Lenovo spokesman later said the remarks were uttered during a “relaxed” moment during a dinner interview.
White iPhone 4: early DIY edition, with a touch of black
Sorry, we couldn't wait -- having spent 11 hours on the streets waiting for the iPhone 4 , it's only natural to give our precious new toy some extra special care. With the help of iFixit's teardown guide , we decided to take the plunge with our steaming hot Chinese delivery -- a white front cover (with a shiny proximity sensor area above the earpiece), a white back cover (with "XXXXX" marked as the model number, ergo a prototype), and a Retina Display unit. Alas, there weren't any white buttons in stock at the time, but let's pretend this black-and-white combo is the new cool. Read on to find out how the surgery went

How the Chinese Internet Needs to Up Its Game
Back in March I thought that Google pulling out of China would hurt Google’s Chinese employees and shareholders more than anyone. The search engine was a distant number two in the market to Baidu , and many of the people already using Google in China, I assumed, were doing so through VPNs anyway, meaning the government blocking it wouldn’t immediately change much in terms of users’ experience. Beyond that, I figured startups in China’s thriving Web scene would rush in to fill any void. But I underestimated one big thing: The impact that the lack of Google would have on China’s Web businesses

5 Great Sites for Exploring Cities Around the Globe
When Google launched its panoramic photomapping service back in 2007, it was the first time many netizens had the chance to explore a swathe of detailed street-level photos from their armchairs. In the U.S., Street View’s rivals now include Microsoft’s Silverlight-powered “ Streetside ” via Bing Maps and MapQuest’s 360 View . Elsewhere in the world, other international sites offer rival photomapping for their particular part of the globe, even as the reach of Google’s Street View steadily increases. We’ve picked our five favorite websites from around the world that offer extensive street level imagery from places as varied as Munich, Mae Hong Son, Moscow and Miskolc

ITRI’s display manages 2D and 3D at once, set to challenge Toshiba for hybrid supremacy
We're still not really sure how Toshiba managed to do both 2D and glasses-free 3D in a single display , but we do now know that it isn't the only company to have achieved this stereoscopic feat. Engadget Chinese caught sight of ITRI's similar composite display, which is able to add depth to individual sections of the screen whilst leaving the rest of it stuck in Flatland. It's a 22-inch, 1680 x 1050 panel and, while 3D content is said to be rendered in much lower resolution than the rest of the display, SecondLife doesn't really require that many pixels to freak you out anyhow. No word on a possible retail release, so you'll just have to keep crossing your eyes at your current monitor

Computex 2010: the best of the rest from Engadget Chinese
We've been running up and down the show floors here at Computex over the past week, and frankly, we're a bit overwhelmed. And exhausted. But mostly just stoked about chowing down on "fish legs" and "frog balls" at Taipei's own Windows 7-theme eatery . We've been covering the major hits right here on our front page, but our tremendous comrades over at Engadget Chinese have been blazing trails of their own. We all know you're looking for an excuse to brush up on your Chinese anyway, so why not dig in below to catch the best of the rest from a world-class group of folks?
