Shazam and Last.fm Team Up for More Music Magic on iPhone
One of the first big “wow” apps for the iPhone was Shazam — hold up your phone to the radio or TV and BAM, find out what song is playing. Likewise, the Last.fm iPhone app was one of the first apps in the App Store for music fans. Today Shazam and Last.fm are partnering to bring features from both services together. When Shazam launched its premium versions, Shazam Encore and (SHAZAM)RED , last fall, it was unclear if the new features would be worth the $4.99 price tag

Zune HD Update 4.3: Speedier Browser, Predictive Text and More [Zune Hd]
Zune HD users should be able to download the latest firmware update now, and it's substantial enough to warrant grabbing ASAP. There's a speedier browser, predictive text entry (a la iPhone), and that's just the beginning. Updated: Update: The firmware upgrade went through just fine on my 32GB Zune HD, and I'm definitely seeing an improvement in the browser's speed. Before, it was mysteriously slow, especially compared to the iPod Touch's browser—there's no reason for that, especially given the Zune HD's speedy Tegra processor

P2P users may be music industry’s best friend after all
I haven't been a P2P user for nearly a decade now, but there was a shining moment back in graduate school when Napster's bounty of music looked shiny and irresistible. Though discovery tools were primitive, Napster made it simple enough to find bands that one liked, then to browse the music collection of those who also liked said band. In this way I discovered The Jayhawks and dove deeper into Radiohead—which at the time I knew only as the band who had done "Creep" some years before. Those downloads made no money for the artists, but that exposure turned me into a huge fan of both groups and it wasn't long before I spent my afternoons scavenging the used CD shops of Chapel Hill to find more of the incredible music I was discovering.

Activision pulls Kurt Cobain Guitar Hero 5 footage off YouTube
It looks like attorney power has prevailed after it’s been discovered that Activision has participated in the pulling of Guitar Hero 5 Kurt Cobain videos from YouTube. Courtney Love, Cobain’s widow wasn’t too chuffed to discover that the Nirvana star was being used to sing songs from other artists. She eventually called on her attorney in an attempt to put a stop to it before launching a foul-mouthed Twitter tirade in the direction of Activision. And it looks as if Activision has l
