View From the Line: The iPhone 4 Is Bigger Than Elvis
The iPhone 4 is finally in stores and the lines are truly massive . With pre-orders of more than 600,000 units , the crowds showed up early and were prepared to wait in long lines. I know, because I was one of those customers. I waited more than seven hours for my iPhone 4, after arriving just before 6 a.m. at my local Apple Store — and keep in mind, this was an Apple Store inside a mall.

Famous Line-Sitter Already Waiting for iPhone 4 at NYC Apple Store [VIDEO]
Texas may have New York beat when it comes to waiting in line for the iPhone 4 , but that doesn’t mean the plaza outside the 5th Avenue Apple Store is bereft of customers/campers. As per usual, Greg Packer — storied line-sitter extraordinaire — has queued up to get his hands on Steve Jobs’s latest magical device. Mashable visited Packer this morning to see how he’s faring so far. Last time we saw Packer, he was parked out in front of the very same store in anticipation of the iPad — all on his lonesome

Apple, AT&T apologize for massive iPhone 4 preorder meltdown
Both AT&T and Apple have sent out statements Wednesday acknowledging yesterday's iPhone 4 preorder meltdown . According to AT&T spokesperson Seth Bloom, preorder sales for the iPhone 4 were 10 times higher than the first day of preorders for the iPhone 3GS last summer. Apple has also publicly acknowledged that things did not go smoothly, apologizing to would-be customers who weren't able to get an order in before the iPhone 4 sold out. Apple said that it and its cell carriers worldwide took more than 600,000 preorders for the iPhone 4 yesterday. This was the "largest number of preorders Apple has ever taken in a single day and was far higher than we anticipated, resulting in many order and approval system malfunctions," forcing many customers to abandon their attempts to complete an order.

iPhone 4 is unlocked in Canada, too
Americans: gaze upon your neighbors around you if you want to see what a healthy GSM ecosystem looks like. Okay, we're sure many of our Canadian friends would disagree that the Rogers / Bell / Telus oligopoly is anything close to "healthy," but nonetheless, we're still envious of the fully-unlocked option Apple is offering for all iPhones in the online store -- just like the UK -- along with a promise that a "reduced initial price with a contract directly from your wireless carrier" if you're still interested in getting tied up in a contract. That's a lot closer to the European phone sales model, and it's a model American carriers have never even come close to touching. Now if you'll excuse us, we need to get back to refreshing our connection to this utterly dead upgrade eligibility server. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in] iPhone 4 is unlocked in Canada, too originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 15 Jun 2010 18:41:00 EDT.

iPhone 4 Pre-Orders Overwhelm AT&T Servers
The iPhone 4 is now available for pre-order — in theory, anyways. We’ve been trying to pre-order and pay for an iPhone 4 since 9 a.m. ET and have been left with Apple.com time-outs, AT&T error messages, clueless customer service reps and reservations recorded at the wrong price. Checking Twitter and Facebook , we know we’re not alone. Fortunately, after nearly eight hours at this, we do have some tips for those of you still trying to get a pre-order or reservation

Apple Store app arrives in Apple App Store
This is one of those things that makes you wonder why it hadn't been done already. Apple's just unleashed an Apple Store application for its iDevices designed to pretty much give you the online Apple Store experience -- but perhaps without the crazy on-again, off-again antics of this morning . All that's required is a device with iOS version 3 or above, and you'll be able to read reviews, locate local brick and mortar Stores, check out new and featured products, and -- importantly -- buy or pre-order the latest goodies Steve and co have bestowed upon these lands.
